Match Report

A good start to the pre-season for the Lilywhites saw them overcome City of Liverpool in a 2-1 victory.

A curling Tom Hartley free kick gave Rhyl a late win in their first game of pre-season after Tom Creamer opened the scoring for the Whites.

Creamer's opener in 13th minute, where he nodded a header past the keeper from close range was against the run of play with the visitors applying the early pressure.

The goal saw helped Rhyl settle into the game and soon the match had turned into an entertaining affair with both teams testing the oppositions defence.

Crowther showed good hands when holding a couple of stinging efforts and Davies headed a decent chance for the Lilywhites wide at the back post.

The visitor's levelled though in the 38th minute with a bullet header from six yards out. The score remained 1-1 at the half time break.

Both teams then had good spells in the second half but it was the away side who had the best opportunities as Crowther was forced into great saves from both long range and close range efforts before a golden chance was smashed over the bar inside the area.

It was the Lilywhites however, who made the breakthrough in the 87th minute. With Payne standing over a free kick 25 yards out, the new signing stepped over the ball and Hartley then curled the ball into the bottom right corner, the ball striking the post on it's way in.

The Lilywhites then resisted the late pressure and held on to start off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win.
