Rhyl ran out comfortable 4 – 0 winners against a young Morecambe Academy side at a sunny Corbett Sports Stadium. Rhyl from an early stage stamped their authority against the opposition and had the majority of the play in the first half. Chances fell to Rob Hughes and debutant Toby Jones but Rhyl were unable to make their domination count on the score line. However with the half drawing to a close a long range Toby Jones free kick was only parried by the Morecambe keeper Cameron Armstrong and Alex Jones was on hand to score from three yards out.
The second half continued in a similar manner with the Rhyl side having the majority of possession and creating chances. Rob Hughes again looked lively forcing the Morecambe keeper into early action and from a corner Aaron Simpson was on hand to score with a nearpost header from close range in the 53rd minute. As the half wore on Rhyl created a number of chances with Hughes and Alex Jones at the heart of many of the Rhyl chances. With fifteen minutes to go good work on the Rhyl left saw Levi Mackin lay the ball off to sub Andreas Alvarado who set up Alex Jones who responded by calmly finishing from the edge of the box with a great low finish. As the entertaining match drew to a close Alex Jones was able to run through to the edge of the box and with a calm half volley smashed the ball into the back of the net to claim his hat trick and ensure a 4-0 win for Rhyl.
