Rhyl 1-3 Colwyn Bay
Corbett Sports Stadium
A feisty encounter at the Corbett Sports Stadium saw visitors, Colwyn Bay emerge as 3-1 winners on the night.
A goal from Danny Andrews gave the Seagulls the lead in the first half before Chris Bibby and George Mannion sealed the victory as Alun Webb grabbed a consolation goal for Rhyl.
It was the visitors who started the strongest and soon had their reward on 25 minutes when Andrews’ 20 yard free kick squirmed past Askew and into the bottom corner.
Rhyl increased the tempo in the second half and began to look more confident but were undone when a failed clearance allowed Bibby to poke in a low shot and give the Seagulls’ their second on 76 minutes.
Mannion then rounded off a good night for the visitors when he latched onto a chipped through ball and finished with an excellent looping half volley that struck the far post on its way in.
Alun Webb, who had been Rhyl’s greatest threat, gave the Lilywhites something to cheer in the 90th minute however when he won a penalty and coolly converted it, sending the keeper the wrong way.
