Rhyl vs. Llandudno
Welsh Premier League
Rhyl begin the Welsh Premier League with a hard earned 0-0 draw against Llandudno Town in what proved to be an entertaining game despite the score line.
Zyaac Edwards went closest for Rhyl with an effort that was cleared onto the bar and Llandudno twice had the ball in the net but both efforts were ruled out for offside.
The first half began with a quick tempo and Rhyl were soon on the back foot as Llandudno’s intensity saw them enjoy a large bulk of the possession.
And the away side should have made their early dominant spell count but Marc Williams’ effort from inside the 6 yard box looped over the bar after he connected with a low cross.
Llandudno then had the ball in the net after a defensive mix up from the Lilywhites allowed a simple tap in, the linesman however raised his flag for offside and the goal was chalked off.
Rhyl grew into the game after weathering the early storm but only really started to trouble the Llandudno goal in the second half – Toby Jones stinging the hands of Dave Roberts with a rasping half volley after the Rhyl striker got away from his marker with a nice flick.
Both teams were defending excellently with chances few and far between, Llandudno had a chipped effort again disallowed for offside before Zyaac Edwards had the best chance of the game – after knocking the ball past the keeper, Rhyl were celebrating but the shot was smashed against the underside of the cross bar a Llandudno defender and the ball bounced away.
The game saw no further chances and both defences held firm to see out a 0-0 draw.
A potentially serious injury to Andreas Alvarado late on will give Niall McGuiness cause for concern with Rhyl’s injury list already high.
