Rhyl could consider themselves unlucky to lose out to Gap Connah's Quay in a cold night at the Corbett Sports Stadium. The opening exchanges in the match showed the match was to be close encounter and in the 13th minute Rhyl took the lead. An attack down the Rhyl left saw Rio Ahmadi lay the ball off for Toby Jones who then found Zyaac Edwards out wide who placed the ball past John Denby and into the back of the net to put the Lilywhites 1-0 up. Nomads put Rhyl under pressure but were unable to create clear chances and at the 30 minute mark Rhyl failed to convert a great chance to double their lead. Rio Ahmadi following a break had a chance but his shot lacked the power to beat Danby and the rebound evaded Alex Jones.
Having failed to go 2-0 up Rhyl were suddenly faced with a cruel equaliser. A long range shot which appeared to present no danger from Lewis Short took an almighty deflection to leave Rhyl keeper Owen Evans completly stranded with Les Davies claiming the goal for the visitors.
Rhyl created a few chances at the start of the second half and good work by Rob Hughes created a half chance for Alex Jones but he was unable to connect with the chance and the danger was cleared. In the 64th minute the Rhyl defence were caught napping following a Nomads substitution which allowed Tom Field to score from the Nomads right and to put the visitors into the lead. Six minutes later Rhyl had strong claims for a penalty as Toby Jones was fouled in the area but referee Kevin Parry to the frustration of the crowd at the Grange Road end turned down the claims and then almost a minute later a lofted ball found Toby Jones on the edge of the six yard box but his touch was blocked once again by Danby. Rhyl continued to press and left themselves vulnerable to breaks by the Nomads but the visitors held out to claim the three points
