Match Report

Rhyl managed to avoid a shock defeat in their final pre-season friendly against St Asaph City from the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance as they came from behind to draw 3-3.

Rhyl created all of the chances in the first half with Jack Hoult hitting the bar in the 8th minute whilst Tony Davies headed over from close range in the 19th minute.  As the half went on Rhyl continued to create chances, Jamie Whitehouse, Tom Rowlands and Stewart Carroll were unable to convert opportunities.  With the half looking to end goalless Tom Rowlands was able to seize on a misplaced clearance to chip Jordan Evans, the St Asaph keeper to put the Lilywhites 1-0 up at the break.

However the second half started badly for the Lilywhites as they collapsed defensively which saw them concede 3 goals in the first 15 minutes of the half.  In the 54th Minute John Terry brought St Asaph level heading home a corner and then 3 minutes later they went 2-1 up with a Jake Walker header from a free kick.  Things got even worse 2 minutes later as Jake Walker was able so seize upon a Rhyl clearance which struck the referee and he was on hand to place the ball home from outside the box to put St Asaph 3-1 up.

Rhyl continued to create chances and with 20 minutes to go were granted a lifeline when Sam Downey was able to get on the end of a low cross to convert the chance to pull one back for the hosts. Whilst Rhyl continued to create the chances they were unable to find the equaliser until the 87th minute when skipper James Brewerton was on hand to receive a St Asaph clearance and his shot from outside the box flew past the St Asaph keeper to bring the Lilywhites level.
