Rhyl FC 4 - 5 Porthmadog

Home | 06 January 2018 | Attendance: 254

A crazy game at the Corbett Sports saw defensive errors prove costly for Rhyl as the match ended in a 4-5 defeat.

Both sides led in a 9 goal thriller which saw the visitors snatch the victory late in the second half.

An eventful first half saw the action start immediately when Connolly saw a low shot saved from the edge of the area.

The visitors were awarded a penalty when the wind held the ball up in the air and a mistimed clearance from Carroll saw a collision of legs and the ref pointed to the spot.

Julian Williams stepped up but his strike was saved well by Crowther who flung himself to his right to palm away the ball.

The wind was doing Rhyl no favours and Porthmadog soon made the breakthrough when another long ball was held up in the air allowing Bradley to reach the ball first and lob it over Crowther.

Rhyl rallied from going a goal down and two quickfire goals saw the game turned on it's head.

Webb first tapped in at the far post from a Collins cross before the same combo of Collins and Webb saw the latter released down the wing and finish with a low strike into the bottom corner.

The visitors then got an equaliser out of nowhere when Chaplin was sent through on goal, rounded Crowther and slotted the ball in.

The parity lasted all of two minutes when Titchiner restored Rhyl's lead with a close range finish from Webb's cut back.

The score remained 3-2 as the first half ended. The second half proved to be just as eventful.

Rhyl extended their lead when Barrow's cross was turned into his own net by Tom Taylor but Portmadog hit back with an instant reply.

Chaplin tapped in following a Crowther save before tapping again after a mis-controlled pass back to make the score 4-4 with 20 minutes to play.

The craziness ensued when Sion Edwards lobbed in from 40 yards out to give the visitors the lead with only 10 minutes remaining.

Rhyl pushed for an equaliser but were unable to carve out any further chances and the game ended Rhyl 4-5 Porthmadog.
