Match Report

Rhyl Ladies put up a spirited performance at home to second place Abergavenny Women but could not stop the visitors claiming all three points in an entertaining match at the Corbett Sports Stadium.  The visitors had the best of the opening exchanges with Rhyl Ladies keeper Yasmin Mills pulling of a superb double save to keep scores level.  As the half went on Rhyl Ladies were hemmed into their own half whilst looking to break the visitors down on the break.

However the first goal for the visitors came half way through the first half as the dangerous Kate Jeremiah was allowed to unleash a shot from outside the area and the shot left Mills helpless as the ball nestled into the bottom corner of the net.  Rhyl Ladies sought to get back into the match with good link play between Laura Williams and the willing runners of Paige Williams and Emily Jones but the Abergavenny defence was resolute forcing the majority of attempts by the home side to long range efforts.  As Rhyl sought an equaliser before the break they were caught on the break when a long ball found Kate Jeremiah again and she was able to run down on Yasmin Mills and place the ball past her to put the visitors into a 2-0 lead at the break.

In the second half the pattern of play followed the first half with the hosts failing to break down the visitors solid back line.  The visitors showed good passing movement with Alana Murphy on the left proving to be a willing outlet for a number of attacks.  One of those moves gave the opportunity for the visitors to find the third and claim all three points.  Good play from Murphy on the left found Lyndsey Davies in the box twelve yards out and despite a valiant attempt by Yasmin Mills her shot went over the line to allow the visitors to claim the win.

All in all Rhyl Manager Tom Jamieson will have been disappointed with the defeat but was able to find plenty of positives in the performance of the young Rhyl side including a solid debut from Catherine Archer.
