The pre-season preparations continue on Thursday night at the Corbett Sports Stadium with a visit from a young Shrewsbury Town team. (kick off 7.30 pm). Rhyl played a strong Nantwich Town team on Tuesday night who in their last friendly had beaten Wrexham 1-0 and put up a spirited performance in a 3-1 defeat.  The Lilywhites took the lead through an Alex Jones header before a first half equaliser by Kieran Evans.  The second half saw a goal from ex Prestatyn striker Jordan Davies and a trialist to maintain the Cheshire sides unbeaten pre-season programme.

For Rhyl, manager Niall McGuinness acknowledged that progress was being made stating that "we are getting exactly what we want as a group from pre-season as players are getting up to match fitness, we are being tested by good opposition and we are finding the best system and strongest 11 as we go along." He added that overall "we are still yet to have had a full squad to pick from with players having little niggles and players being away on holiday at different times."  From this however a possible positive was emerging as this was providing an opportunity for others and McGuinness stated that "I'm happy to have been able to give 1st team opportunity to more young local lads Jack Hoult, Matty Morris, Tom Creamer along with Academy products Connor Rankin and Chris Durkin."

McGuinness also added that he was "very happy with how the squad is developing in that there is a good spirit amongst the group" and suggested that the real test of the squad would come at the start of the season as "that's where it counts, we know exactly where we are at and where we want to be."
