Bright future for Jack with the Lilywhites

24 February 2018

The win against Gresford Athletic, whilst witnessing a great team performance from Rhyl, was also notable for the debut of Jack Parry-Jones. Jack, a local former Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School pupil, has been a regularly with the Reserves team this season and his reward for consistent performances was a place in the match day squad and an appearance from the bench for the last seven minutes.

After the match Rhyl Manager Matthew Jones was full of praise for the hard work put in by Jack to push for contention in the squad commenting that “his debut was down to merit we are not just going to put lads in for the sake of doing it, lads have to earn the right to come in and be part of this first team and to get on to the field of play and he has.  We are very, very keen to start promoting the academy and getting lads coming through and producing our own players and it’s good to have seen this tonight with him coming on and getting minutes on the pitch, now it’s down to him as an individual to go away and to keep grafting to make sure that it’s not a one off and that he becomes a regular in the squad and starts pushing for a starting place.”

After the match Director of Football Mark Connolly was quick to praise Jack after the game commenting on social media “good performance from the @rhylfc tonight more pleasing to see one of the @RhylAcademyFC Jack Parry Jones coming through the academy and taking his next step in his footballing career great attitude and hard work has got him in the squad today”.

In recent months other local players such as Goalkeeper Luke Wilmot, who has been representing Welsh Colleges in Italy this week, James Williams and Luke Wilsthire have been part of the first team match day squads to gain experience. It is clear that Matthew Jones and Mark Connolly see the development of the pathway for players for academy players through the various age groups to the first team as a crucial area for development for the Lilywhites moving forward.
