Stead and Worrall sign up for Rhyl

09 June 2018

A further two signings have been confirmed as work continues behind the scenes to build the squad for Rhyl FC in the Huws Gray Alliance next season. Director of Football, Eddie Maurice Jones has confirmed the addition of James Stead and Matthew Worrall to the Lilywhites ranks for 2018/19.

Making the return to Belle Vue is former Rhyl player, James Stead, who returns to the Lilywhites after 4 years at Prestatyn Town FC. With first team opportunities limited at Rhyl FC, Stead made the short journey to Bastion Gardens and became a regular for Prestatyn in recent seasons playing for them in the Welsh Premier League and the Huws Gray Alliance.

Upon signing up for Rhyl, Stead commented on the reasons for returning that “it was a massive opportunity that jumped out to me, having been at Rhyl as a young lad I feel I have a point to prove and I have unfinished business here. Rhyl fulfilled all the demands I want at this stage in my football career and the challenge of getting the club back into the Welsh Premier swayed that. It has a fantastic fan base and I’m looking forward to putting on the shirt and doing them proud. Having also had positive meetings with Eddie I was sold by his ambitions for the season and the long term future of the club”.

Director of Football was delighted to bring Stead back to Rhyl confirming that “James was a major priority to bring in. He has all the characteristics I look for in a player and I’m delighted he has signed for Rhyl after lots of interest. I’m very humbled that James has joined as he’s been very loyal over the years. He believes in our plans and I’m positive he’ll be a key figure in the future of Rhyl Football Club.”

Also signing is Matthew Worrall, a quick pacy forward, who makes the move down the A525 from Denbigh Town after a short but successful spell at Central Park. Worrall signed up for Denbigh in early March following the departure of Josh Davies to New Zealand joining from Llay Welfare in the Wrexham Area National League after netting 13 goals in the first 17 games of the season. In the closing weeks he made 7 appearances for Denbigh netting 5 goals in the process.

Worrall was delighted to make the move stating that “I’ve joined Rhyl this year after finishing last season off under the management of Eddie, Rich and Daniel Reece at Denbigh Town F.C. I was enjoying my football and felt extremely confident in-front of goal. When Eddie gave me the opportunity to sign for such a big club like Rhyl it was an easy decision for myself to make, I can’t wait to get going and be part of what Eddie and the management are about to build, which I’m certain will be very successful”.

Eddie Maurice Jones stated that “Matthew has only experienced Huws Gray Alliance football more recently but he excelled all expectations and suited the level. I’m intrigued for what might come for him as he has bundles of potential. Now he has the opportunity that he deserves I’m sure with the correct guidance he will become a top player.”
